Remplaçant occasionnel de Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy à la tête des concerts du Gewandhaus de Leipzig, Niels W. Gade est considéré aujourd’hui comme le compositeur danois le plus important. Ses «Fleurs de printemps» op. 2b, «Aquarelles» op. 19 et «Nouvelles aquarelles» op. 57 révèlent une écriture pour le piano gracieuse et charmante, dans un style intime et familial. Pour autant, ces pièces de caractère s’adressent à des pianistes de niveau intermédiaire. Elles fascinent par leur puissante authenticité, leur sensibilité et leur expressivité ainsi que par leur richesse d’invention. Les pianistes amateurs de musique romantique souhaitant sortir des sentiers battus se consacreront avec bonheur à ce recueil. Riche en informations, la préface a été rédigée par le pianiste danois Bengt Johnsson qui a enregistré l’intégralité des œuvres pour piano de Gade.
