Les cordes pincées du clavecin offrent un terrain de jeu bien tentant pour le guitariste puisqu’elles lui permettent, notamment par le biais du duo, de pénétrer un immense répertoire dans le domaine de la musique baroque, de Scarlatti à Haendel, en passant par Jean-Sébastien Bach.
La transcription de cette Suite française N°3 est une vivante illustration des possibilités du duo de guitares, aussi bien sur le plan polyphonique ou rythmique que sur celui de l’ornementation.
Ecrite à la fin de son séjour à la cour de Cöthen, de 1717 à 1723, période durant laquelle Bach se consacra à la musique instrumentale profane, cette suite, extraite des « 6 suites françaises », trahit l’influence que purent exercer les clavecinistes français sur le Kapellmeister allemand.
